Following a tradition since the revival of the Hula by Hawaii's last king, King David Kalakaua, we celebrate the Hula Graduation (known as ‘uniki) when a boy or girl completes his or her Hula training as a young student and accomplishes a life milestone reflective of entering adulthood in Hawaiian culture.

Charitable Event

The Barefoot Hawaiian performance is all part of a fund-raiser in cooperation with the Joliet Slammers to raise funds for the Hawaii Disaster Relief Fund to help provide aid to families who were effected by the recent volcanic eruptions.  Two of the Slammers players are natives of Hawaii and are leading this charge to help affected families back in their home state.  Come out to help support this cause and watch a great baseball game in the process.  

Plus enjoy more fun and bargains this night:  Tonight is "Thirsty Thursday."  
"It's a Bud Light Thirsty Thursday! Bud, Bud Light, and Dr. Pepper/Snapple beverages available for just $2.

Des Plaines Independence Day Parade

The Barefoot Hawaiian entertains before the parade at 10:00 AM at the TV & video zone.  Then, we announce the commencement of the parade with the official blowing of the conch shells at 10:45 AM.  Finally, catch us anywhere along the parade route as we walk and perform in our own home-town parade.   

The City of Des Plaines is proud to announce this year’s Independence Day Parade theme: 
“Through the Decades...Music, Memories and Fun!” 

The parade starts at the intersection of Wicke and Center streets, runs north on Center to Prairie Avenue, east on Prairie, and then disbands at Prairie and Pearson Streets.

It's River Grove's 130th Anniversary Celebration and they are doing it with their River Front Fest.  The River Front Fest runs the full three days the weekend of July 20-22, at River Front Park in River Grove.

The Hala Kahiki Lounge & South Seas Gift Shop (where we perform the last Saturday of each month for their dinner show) is one of the sponsors for this event and they are having a Tropical Drink Oasis in a large tent at the festival where the Barefoot Hawaiian will be performing from 8:00 to 9:00 PM on Saturday Night.

Throughout the summer, the Town of Cicero hosts it's "Summer in the Park" series at various locations in Cicero, with a wide range of fun activities and themed weeks for every interest in Cicero.

Today, Tuesday, this event occurs at the Cicero Campus Park and looks at Hawaiian culture and features two 45-minutes shows by the Barefoot Hawaiian.  The full evening of activities runs from 5:30 to 8:30 PM with the Barefoot Hawaiian shows at

1st Performance:  6:30 - 7:15 PM
2nd Performance:  7:30 - 8:15 PM

This is a free event.  Bring your blankets and/or chairs and enjoy the show

Beach-Themed "End of Summer Reading Program" Party

The Town and Country Public Library in Elburn closes out their Summer Reading Program with a Beach-Themed party.  The party runs from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, with the Barefoot Hawaiian putting on a show from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.  As a bonus, Scottie the Parrot will also be roaming the party providing patrons with an interactive experience.  The big event will be held outside on the Library grounds.

Rolling Meadows Park District writes: "Bring your favorite Hawaiian shirt, a swimsuit and an empty stomach to the Nelson Sports Complex pool for our 3rd annual Hawaiian Luau Night. We will have Hawaiian dancers, open swim for event attendees only, leis, tropical music, activities, and a pulled pork dinner buffet! 
You can register as an individual for $13/$15 (R/NR) or as a family of 4 for $45/$60 (R/NR).
Pool pass holders will receive a discounted price if they register at the Community Center. $5 off for the family of 4, $3 off for an individual registration and $2 off an additional family member."

6th Annual Farewell to Summer Family Luau

The Winnetka's Tower Road Beach Farewell to Summer Family Luau is on the Saturday of Labor Day weekend.  Get the family together and say goodbye to summer on Saturday , August 25, Luau style. Lifeguards will guard the water from 4:00 to 6:30 pm.  Food will be served throughout the event with the Barefoot Hawaiian providing live music from 4:00 to 6:30 p.m. Then the night really gets exciting with the Barefoot Hawaiian's live luau dance and fire show from 6:30 to 7:00 p.m. 

Winnetka Park District Writes:

"Mahalo! Let that cool Hawaiian breeze hit you as we wave goodbye to summer. Join us at Tower Road Beach for our sixth annual Farewell to Summer Family Luau. Enjoy dinner, swimming, and various activities with a show by The Barefoot Hawaiian dancers.

Please note: Tower Road Beach will only be open to those who have registered for the event. Elder Lane Beach will be staffed with lifeguards during the event and will be open to the public."

There is a fee required to attend and pre-registration is recommended through the Winnetka Park District, either in person or online to determine how much food will be needed for the event.  Deadline for registration is August 24.   Registration on August 26 is on-site only and all entry prices increase by $5.

Residents w/o Beach Passes:  $10
Non-residents w/o Beach Passes:  $15

On-site Registrations: Add $5 to each of the above prices

New format for this year will feature "Cultural Stations"

The Barefoot Hawaiian will be running a “Polynesian Cultural Center”
with various stations that will be teaching Hawaiian, Tahitian, Poi, etc.

Naperville's Last Fling - Family Fun Land

Put on by the Naperville Jaycees, Naperville's "Last Fling" is among the largest weekend community events in all of Chicagoland, featuring many performances, activities, food, and a great amount of things to do spread across multiple locations in the art of Naperville.

The Last Fling event runs the entire weekend of August 31 through September 2.  The Barefoot Hawaiian appearance is part of the Family Fun Land section of the event, which also runs throughout the weekend, with the Barefoot Hawaiian provided activities on Saturday from 2:00 to 4:30 PM.

In the center square of Naper Settlement you will find the Chrisktindmarket with its rich selection of gifts and beverages and holiday cheer.
