About the Contest and Show

Fox TV and the producers of American Idol, premiers it's new reality network TV show, "So you Think You Can Dance?" on Wednesday, July 19 at 7:00 PM (CDT).  In a campaign associated with this production, the area Fox TV producers ran a local version of the contest titled, "So You Think You Can Dance, Chicago?"  The Chicago area's top and best dancers showed to audition for this 5-day event.  The Barefoot Hawaiian was proudly represented by Gabriala Mejia. After a week of auditions, only 5 were selected as finalists, and Gabriela is among those chosen few.

Gabriela Wins 3rd Runner Up !

It was announced on live TV, July 20, that Gabriela Mejia won the prestigious honor of 3rd Runner-up in the first "So you Think You Can Dance, Chicago?" contest.

Gabriela's performance was reviewed and judged by a celebrity panel of three of the world's most recognized experts in the dance arts: Adam Sklute (Ballet), Tommye Giacchino (Ballroom & Cabaret), and Suave (Jazz & Hip-Hop).

What Adam Sklute, of the Joffery Ballet Dance Company, said of Gabriela's performance: "Unbelievable control of the core and the center.  That's really amazing; I'm impressed with that ... Excellent! Really good."

This is a special fund-raising event to benefit the victims of hurricane Katrina.  All proceeds of this event will go to the Des Plaines National Bank's Hurricane Fund intended to benefit the evacuees housed at Maryville Academy in Des Plaines.

The Barefoot Hawaiian will be putting on a show from 8 to 9 PM.  Scottie the Parrot will be present from about 6:30 to 8 to entertain contributors.  In additional to other ongoing entertainment, hors d'oeuvres and beverages will be served.

The New Tiki Terrace Restaurant Opens
The Barefoot Hawaiian is the exclusive entertainment provider


An exciting new restaurant, The Tiki Terrace, will open to the public on November 15, 2005 in Chicago's Northwest Suburbs.  The Tiki Terrace will be the place in the Midwest to dine in authentic South Pacific, tropical paradise style atmosphere. 

Enjoy Polynesian decor, South Pacific cuisine, tropical drinks, and the entertainment of the Barefoot Hawaiian.  In addition, the Barefoot Hawaiian has been assigned to train the entire wait staff of The Tiki Terrace to ensure its guests receive the most authentic feel of Hawaii anywhere this side of this island.
