More than 200 people attended the Lake Zurich Park and Recreation Department's Luau at the Lake in Paulus Park earlier this month.

While this was the first time the department hosted a luau, Recreation Supervisor Bonnie Matheson expects this to become an annual event. "I thought it was really successful and we look forward to doing it again," Matheson said.

The day included music and games like limbo and hula hoop and food from Brother's Ribs, 69 S. Rand Road, Lake Zurich. The $5 admission helped the department recoup costs ·for putting on the event.

The highlight of the evening was a performance by the Barefoot Hawaiian Dancers, which complemented the luau theme, Matheson said.

Children went home with giveaways and prizes like candy, pencils and small toys.

"It's just something different that we hadn't done in the past in the village," Matheson said.
